Biography

 

Emma Brathwaite is the senior adolescent/youth health technical advisor at the Nossal Institute for Global Health (University of Melbourne). With 10 years experience in HIV, AIDS and sexual reproductive health, Emma’s expertise focuses on program design, implementation and operational research for advocacy to develop national HIV responses. Emma specialises in HIV prevention with and for at-risk youth; HIV and adolescent sexual reproductive health integration. She has provided technical expertise in a range of youth programs, including HIV prevention with and for young people considered most-at-risk in India, Vietnam, Bhutan, Indonesia and Lao PDR. Prior to joining the Nossal Institute, Emma was the Gender & Training / Prevention Officer at UNAIDS in Vietnam and worked closely with youth, gender and harm reduction programs in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Her specific technical expertise includes: 
* HIV prevention: harm reduction; peer education; condom social marketing (HIV and SRH: models of integration) 
* Adolescent sexual reproductive health
* Most-at-risk populations; young people who sell sex, use drugs and/or young men who have sex with men (and especially vulnerable adolescents/young people)
* Youth friendly health services , youth peer education and outreach
* Comprehensive life skills (in school and out-of-school)
