Biography

Dr Nathan Grills is a Public Health Physician undertaking post doctoral research through the Nossal Institute of Global Health.  He is exploring the effectiveness of networking between community health programs in low income countries and will use social network analysis to explore linking with the government health system, linking to undertake training programs, and linking to improve the health outreach in the state.

As a participant observer with one such network in North India, the Uttarakhand Cluster, he will be coordinating network wide health programs.  These include an anti tobacco program, a disability awareness program and various training activities.

Nathan completed his medical training at Monash University before moving to Oxford under a Rhodes’ scholarship to undertake a DPhil in Public Health researching Community Health and HIV in India.  Additionally he has worked with CDC (India) and then WHO (HQ) exploring the civil society and faith based response to HIV-AIDS in India.  Nathan has worked in health in Nepal, Fiji, India, PNG, Tanzania, Kenya and Thailand. Nathan also completed the Victorian  Dept. of Human Services Public health fellow scheme from 2008-2010.   In 2009, Nathan was recently awarded Endeavour Fellowship, an NHMRC post doctorate fellowship, and Rowden White college of Physicians fellowship.
