Analysis and knowledge generation
Documenting, compiling and analysing the experience and outcomes from HSS strategies and interventions, and developing evidence resources to support rational policy making.
Funded by AusAID, a major initiative has been the establishment of the Knowledge Hub in Health Policy and Finance. The Hub contributes to the quality and effectiveness of Australia's engagement in the health sector in the Asia Pacific region through expanded expertise and knowledge base. Over a three year period the Hub will conduct a comparative analysis of health finance interventions and health system outcomes, examine the role of non-state providers of health care, and review health policy development in the Pacific.
One recent analysis has focused on estimating the costs of additional investment needed in health systems at sub-national level in selected Asia-Pacific countries in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals in Maternal and Child Health. In this work, funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and AusAID, the Nossal Institute is working with other Knowledge Hubs in Health - including the University of Queensland and the Burnet Institute - to provide evidence on financing for local and national governments to make decisions about where and how to invest in scaling-up for MCH services.
