Disability Inclusive Practices in Eye Health

This document has been produced to build upon the great work already undertaken by eye health services in developing countries. It provides guidance to strengthen eye health programmes in order to ensure people with all types of disability can access and benefit equally from these services. The guide has been specifically written to provide ideas on how to enable the AusAID-funded Avoidable Blindness Initiative (ABI) programmes to become more disability inclusive, but the material is relevant to other eye health programmes in developing countries around the world and been written as a stand-alone document to provide ideas about how to enable eye health services to be more disability inclusive. It is not intended to be a ‘Train the Trainer Manual’. It contains background information regarding disability, and recommendations on how to make eye health services disability inclusive. Sample practical checklists (within the Tool Box Section) are provided for use, which can be easily adapted by eye health programme staff.
